I went out to Oakville

Sunday, March 25th, 2001

I went out to Oakville this evening to meet up with Danielle and play the Settlers two-player card game.

As it turned out, we met up with a few of her friends from Sheridan at a wicked Indian buffet, and later introduced three of them to the wonder that is the full four-player version of Settlers.

Always good to spread the word.

Oh, and Foxy mentioned our meeting in her on-line journal, as well. Maybe I should have told her that I was planning on going to that show. But I wasn’t sure if I was gonna go or not. Or see her there.

Anyway, she has more important things on her mind than meeting strange people on the street.

Oh, too cool. Radio Escapade

Sunday, March 18th, 2001

Oh, too cool. Radio Escapade is doing an all-Canadian hip-hop weekend. They just played some Dream Warriors, Kish, Maestro and Snow…

Now, yes, I’m a white boy. As white as they come. And I certainly don’t pretend to be current with the hip-hop scene in Canada. But I do have a half-dozen or so albums from Canada’s old school hip-hop era. It was good to hear those songs again.

Oh, man. They’re playing “Conductin’ Thangs.” So sweet.

And, hey, just coz I’m pale don’t mean I can’t bus’ a move. They don’t call me tha Doctor of Funk for nuthin’.

My mom tells me I have two Irish great-great-grandparents. That makes me one-eighth Irish. Not too shabby.

May your glass be ever full.
May the roof over your head be always strong.
And may you be in heaven a half an hour
Before the Devil knows you’re dead.

I was reading digifox today

Saturday, March 17th, 2001

I was reading digifox today and found this.

So, I went and checked out Clerks and actually met the girl.

Do you realise how many creepy ‘Net stalkers wanna be in my shoes right now? *poses dramatically*

Actually, it was kinda awkward. I was standing in line for the movie when I saw her in a group up ahead, assessing how fast the line was moving. I thought, “Hunh, there she is. She’s … short.” Then she walked toward me, to join the line. This is about how it went:

JohnnyB: Hi, Jenn. It’s JohnnyB.

digifox: Are you serious? Oh my God!

JohnnyB: ~self-conscious~ Uh, heh heh. Yeah.

Then she asked me if I had read about this is her blog, if I knew she was going to be there. I said I had and I did. And then I felt just like one of those ‘Net stalkers myself.

I did go and talk with her a bit after the show, despite how weird it all felt. Nice girl. And Steven is just as dreamy as she says. *smirks*

When the latest Internet meme

When the latest Internet meme makes it into print, does it mean it’s dead or it’s just getting started?

Wow. When I went to allmusic.com to find that Tina Turner link, there was April Verch’s new CD on the front page. I went to high school with her older sister.

My mom gave me her previous album, Fiddelicious, a while ago. Maybe I’ll have another listen.

It really says something about the 80s when the best song of the decade the NEA and RIAA can come up with is Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”

Or maybe it says something about the NEA and RIAA.

Last night, I went to the volunteers’ meeting for Ryerson’s campus radio station, CKLN. Looks like a good place. The rotation’s pretty heavy with music, especially urban music, but there seems to be a few people there committed to getting some more news and information on the air.

They also want to do more with their Web site, too, so I could do some on-line work, as well. But I really want to concentrate on doing some good radio work there and keeping my skills sharp, while I do Web monkey work here at the Corp.

Well, I feel like a jerk. I skipped out on a family gathering coz I wanted to keep the weekend clear for whatever might happen.

And what happened was … nothing. All my plans for the weekend fell through. And none of the anticipated going-outings happened.

I did learn something on Thursday night, tho. It doesn’t matter where you sit for a taping of Royal Canadian Air Farce. With all the cameras and gear placed right in front of the actors, you can’t see a thing no matter where you are. Just sit close to one of the monitors.
