I think the CBC headlines
Wednesday, February 27th, 2002I think the CBC headlines down the right-hand side are slowing down my page loads.
Anyone else notice that?

I attempted a difficult manoeuvre this morning, perhaps the most difficult in all of public transit: the Streetcar Dismount and Delayed Re-embark.
In this rarely seen skill, a commuter gets off the streetcar one stop before his intended target (and my case, the video store) and then attempts to get back on the same streetcar at the next stop.
It’s dangerous, yes, but if I had pulled it off, I could have shaved six to ten minutes off my commute time. And it was raining.
Sadly, though, it wasn’t to be. The back doors of the streetcar closed just as I reached them.
I’m hopeful, though, that I’ll do well in the Escalator Sprint and the Clueless Commuter Steeplechase later today.
Yonge Street was quite the sight around 8 last night. People walking in the street. Impromptu parades going both ways. And three guys beating a tattoo on a metal recycling bin.
I wish I had had my MiniDisc.
Ohhhh, so that’s why I’ve been such a space cadet lately. Blame the Internet!
Note for future reference - The following combination produces a nasty nauseating effect:
Looking at the list now, I’m not sure why it wasn’t obvious at the time that this combination would have this effect.
I think it might have been that second component.
Oh, and also, the “Toronto” Simpsons episode sucked. I can’t believe the Canadian media got so sucked in by the last five minutes of one episode.
And also also, Happy Birthday, Marjie.
Save Our Sofas is a group protesting against the disapperance of comfortable spots to sit and read in Indigo and Chapters stores.
Their site’s colour scheme hurts my brain, but I had to link to it given my previous rant against Chapters/Indigo.
Way back in ‘97, I talked to an Indigo store manager about the store’s philosophy. He said he thought of the store as “a place where people can meet and spend the day.”
Now, it seems, Chapters/Indigo wants you to go in, get your damn book and get out. No browsing!
I found the SOS link on MeFi, who apparently think the whole thing’s a hoax. But I can attest that chairs at the downtown Chapters
have almost completely disappeared and they’ve moved the magazine rack away from the ledge by the window, so people can’t sit and read
anymore.
Also found in the Montreal Gazette (warning: ugly-ass canada.com site ahead).
She: If your mom ever really got to know me, she’d come after me with a pitchfork and an angry mob.
He: Don’t be silly. My mom doesn’t know any angry mobs.
I think .net is a pretty cool TLD to have, even if my site doesn’t exactly fit its original intent.
And Wil Wheaton agrees with me. In fact, wilwheaton.com redirects back to wilwheaton.net.
johnbowman.com, on the other hand, redirects here, oddly enough.
