What prompted this reaction? Well, I’ll leave that up to the reader’s imagination.

Woohoo! I’m gonna get me one of these babies nearly-new from Steph.
Hmm… one more thing to plug in. I’ll either need a new power bar or a new apartment.
There might be a shot of me on Canada Now tonight.
They doing a story about CBC.ca being the No. 1 news site in Canada last month. I might be in the wide shots of the news desk.
Actually, they moved me over to the news desk (I’m usually in another set of desks known as “The Pod”) because one of the regular writers was camera-shy.
Right now, Newsworld has coverage of the body of Cpl. Jamie Murphy coming back to Canada from Afghanistan. He was killed in a suicide bombing in Kabul this week.
The images aren’t all that interesting, but they are remarkable because this is something American television viewers will never see, at least not under the current administration. The Bush government has been enforcing rules barring the media from showing pictures of dead American soldiers coming back from Iraq.
They say the reason for the ban is to spare the relatives of the soldiers from a media frenzy, but many people have said there’s likely a political motive, too. It’s hard to win an election on a pro-war platform when there are images of caskets draped in American flags on CNN.
But whatever the motive, the disturbing thing is how easily the American media have bent to the will of the government. There’s been no court challenge, few damning editorials and all the outrage seems confined to web forums and alternative news sources.
So, while a coffin draped in a Canadian flag slowing rolling off a transport plane may not be the most compelling TV you’ll ever see, I’m glad Newsworld is covering it, if only because it starkly constrasts what’s happening down south.
TORONTO (CP) — With talk-show host Mike Bullard moving to Global, CTV is shifting its popular imported news parody, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, into the vacated midnight slot, beginning Nov. 3.
[Zoidberg] “Hooray!” [/Zoidberg]
I think the Fates wanted me to stay at home and play Starcraft all weekend.
After sleeping through my stop on the train yesterday, I took out an Autoshare car to do some grocery shopping Sunday afternoon. Beige must be a very good urban camouflage colour, because I swear I never saw the other car coming.
I managed to brake enough to slow down quite a bit, but not enough to stop before I hit the car. I busted my plastic bumper moulding and his driver’s side fender.
So, that was two afternoons in a row down the tubes. I want my weekend back.
I wish the train station in Kingston were closer to downtown.
An unexpected trip to K-town might be fun in that case.
Dammit. I really did intend to go to karate today.
This napping in the afternoon plan sounded like a good idea.
I have a pretty sweet gig today. I get the watch the live feed from the SARS benefit concert – the same video that’s shown on the big screens at the concert itself – and update the story on the site.
